Key Dates in AFP History
The Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) traces its origins back to the founding of the National Corporate Cash Management Association (NCCMA) in 1979. NCCMA was a professional organization representing corporate cash management professionals focused on short-term liquidity management.
As the role of finance evolved, so did the association.
- 1980: NCCMA held its first annual conference.
- 1986: NCCMA established the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP®) designation.
- 1991: NCCMA became the Treasury Management Association (TMA), reflecting a broader focus on treasury responsibilities.
- 1999: TMA became Association for Financial Professionals (AFP), reflecting the full scope of functions within the office of the CFO.
- 2003: The Certified Cash Manager (CCM) designation was phased into the CTP designation.
- 2014: AFP established the Certified Corporate FP&A Professional designation.
- 2021: The acronym to denote the Certified Corporate FP&A Professional designation officially became FPAC®.
