With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we share with the AFP treasury and payments community that our colleague and friend, Andrew Deichler, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 20, 2025, due to an illness. Andrew was the Director of Enterprise Payments Practice and a valued and beloved member of the AFP staff. Andrew embodied AFP’s Core Values, particularly “We are all in it together,” helping anyone who needed it, in any way he was able.

Andrew’s colleagues remember him as affable, knowledgeable, astute, perceptive, compassionate and inclusive. They noted that he was a friend to all, particularly to those who needed a friend most. Andrew was intellectually curious, committed to continuous learning, and devoted to helping corporate finance professionals and AFP succeed. Staff also admired how he was a warrior to the end.

“Andrew was the type of person who made a meaningful impact on everyone around him,” said Pat Culkin, AFP’s President and CEO. “We are thankful that he chose to be part of the AFP team.”

Jim Kaitz, retired AFP President and CEO, said, “Andrew was a truly nice person who always had a smile on his face. He was a consummate team player and always willing to do whatever was necessary to get the job done.”

Andrew first joined AFP in September 2010 as a Web and Publications Writer. In that role, he authored many articles and blog posts on treasury and payments topics for AFP Exchange, AFP newsletters and social media. He also produced the AFP Conversations podcast, interviewing many members of the extended AFP community. In addition, Andrew collaborated with AFP staff subject matter experts and volunteers to create many AFP Payments Guides and Treasury in Practice Guides, further strengthening his domain expertise.

During this time, Andrew showed an interest in payments and developed a great deal of knowledge, particularly in emerging payment technologies. He became recognized as an influential creator within the broader payments community outside AFP. He was invited to participate as a panelist and moderator at many industry events focused on corporate payments.

Andrew left AFP in January 2021 and shortly thereafter returned to the treasury and payments community when he joined Kyriba as Content Manager, Strategic Marketing. While at Kyriba, he leveraged his knowledge, network and passion to create multimedia content strategies for the marketing team at Kyriba. He also produced materials to support Kyriba's strategic growth. This experience added to the development of Andrew’s technical knowledge and reinforced his interest in payments.

Andrew returned to AFP in October 2024 to develop AFP’s Enterprise Payments Practice, expanding AFP’s coverage of the order-to-cash (O2C) and procure-to-pay (P2P) processes. This allowed him to further cultivate his knowledge of the corporate payments ecosystem. After returning to AFP, he helped to establish the AFP Enterprise Payments Virtual Series and contributed to the development of world-class payments content for the AFP Annual Conference. He also developed AFP Payments Guides and webinars to address the needs of the profession.

“Andrew dedicated over 12 years of his career to serving the treasury and finance profession and did so with passion, commitment and a desire to have a positive impact on as many people as possible,” said Culkin. “I can say definitively that his work will leave a lasting impact on the profession and the people in it. He will be sorely missed.”

“Andrew will be deeply missed but never forgotten,” added Kaitz.

While his professional accomplishments are noteworthy, his impact on all of us at AFP and on those in our community is the enduring memory we carry. We are grateful for the time we had with him. We invite colleagues and members of the AFP community to share memories and condolences to [email protected]. We will pass along the messages to his family.
